Ponder & wonder
February morning walk,
Seltzer-bubbles lather sky,
Sun incubating, not to be bothered.
Broken squad of geese,
Laundry machine spoiling peacefully in leaves
Stand of ebony trees, lichen machines, arms outstretched
Silently necromancing the prometheal soil
Raising crocus and stonefly and other springtime voodoo.
Encounter two men, listless,
Wrestling a grocery cart out of a storm drain
Faces glossed with iron-age purpose, constancy.
One is wearing my father’s coat, the other
Casts his gaze through me, singular fenris
Eye probes, finds nothing. Carries on.
